  • CAN I WATCH THE CLASS?
In our experience, students achieve more in their classes (2–4-year-olds included) when they can focus on the teacher in a calm and controlled space. For this reason and like most other dance schools, classes are not open for viewing and parents and siblings cannot enter the classroom as this can be distracting. Our younger students may have specific occasions where the teachers will invite parents/guardians to view the last few minutes of class, however this has been tricky to navigate throughout the pandemic and regardless these occasions do not occur in term 3 or 4 as we aim to keep our concert routines a surprise! Our Tiny & Mini classes typically have student helpers assist the class who are fantastic at encouraging and supporting our youngest students that need may need extra help.
  • CAN I TAKE PHOTOS OF MY CHILD IN CLASS?
Short answer: Unfortunately, no. Long answer: Studio C has permission to photograph or film our students, parents do not. You're more than welcome to photograph or film your dancer before or after class, provided that no other dancers are captured without express permission to do so from their parent/guardian. Aside from being a matter of safety, when photos or footage is taken during class time it's distracting for both the dancers and teachers (no matter how subtle you're trying to be!) Our teachers and assistants do their best to capture accomplishments and happy memories in class to share on our Private Facebook Group, which we encourage all enrolled families to join!
  • WHAT DOES MY CHILD NEED TO BRING?
Students should bring a named water bottle, dance shoes (see uniform requirements) and ensure their hair is neat and off the face. If your dancer requires medical supplies such as an asthma puffer or EpiPen, please ensure this is handed to the teacher upon arrival. Trial students don't need to worry about organising a uniform just yet, we can help you organise that when you formally enrol! In the meantime, all trial classes should be attended in comfortable, non-restrictive clothing (preferably plain black) with hair tied back and runners/bare feet.
  • CAN MY CHILD BRING A FRIEND?
Yes, BUT all dancers wanting to participate must fill out an enrolment form and have organised a trial PRIOR to arrival at the studio. We cannot guarantee there will be space in the class and must have enrolment forms filled out for safety and insurance purposes. Occasionally our studio will run a ‘Bring a Friend’ week, but we will let families know full details if this should arise!
  • WHAT IF MY CHILD CHANGES THEIR MIND OR DOESN'T WANT TO CONTINUE?
Please see our Fee and Cancellation Policy for full details. We hope to see students enrol for the full calendar year to achieve the most out of their classes and to be eligible to perform in our annual concert. Parents/Guardians are highly encouraged to discuss any concerns you may have with our teachers as we completely understand student interests can vary or change and often have various solutions and options for your student to try, rather than just cancelling outright. If you choose not to continue after a trial class, you will not be required to pay the term fees, so long as Studio C has been officially notified before the following class. If your student decides not to continue after 2 classes, we'll invoice you the Casual Class cost for each extra class participated in. If you decide to cancel enrolment at 3 weeks in, you are still required to pay for the full term to cover admin and insurance costs for your child/ren. Changing a student’s enrolment to a different class is subject to the preferred class’s pre-existing size and timetable availability. In the event that the class is not accepting enrolments, students may be placed on a waitlist until a spot becomes available.
  • DOES MY CHILD HAVE TO DO EXAMS OR COMPETITIONS?
No! Exams and competitions are an excellent option for students wanting the challenge of taking their dancing even further and to have extra performance opportunities, but we completely understand that this isn’t for everybody! Students may attend classes for recreation and work their way up through our levels at their own pace. We do offer solo/duo and troupe performance opportunities as well as Classical Ballet exam preparation for those students who are driven and want to get more out of their dancing. Ballet dancers wishing to complete a ballet exam must attend two Ballet classes per week (including our exam specific preparation program), meet out-of-studio practise requirements and download the R.A.D app. All Ballet Exam classes/training programs incur extra costs; enquire today to discuss your dancer's options and to receive an exam information pack detailing extra costs, commitments & student expectations. Students wanting to excel in Ballet should also consider Conditioning as supplementary training! Competition ballet dancers must enrol in a conditioning class.
  • DO YOU HAVE A CONCERT?
Yes! The highlight of the year is our annual end of year concert held in a Ballarat theatre. This is a full-scale production with costumes, lights, and all! It's a wonderful experience for students to perform and an entertaining show for families to come and watch. Students must be committed to weekly classes to perform in the concert. Any student who will not be participating in the concert must let us know by the start of term 3. A Production Fee (invoiced Term 3) and all outstanding term fees must be paid for students to participate; A lot of work goes in to planning for each student to do the concert and this fee contributes towards their costumes, accessories, props, and the event itself. All students must attend our Dress Rehearsal in Ballarat to be able to perform in the concert. This is usually held on a different day to the concert so students can rehearse in the theatre and feel well prepared for the real thing!
